What is Folkway?

A folkway is a traditional way of life, the customs, practices, and beliefs handed down through a people across generations.

The ancestral folkway, what Mike Maxwell calls folkishness, is an earthward disposition toward pre-political identity, the layers of belonging that precede ideology: family, clan, tribe, folk, race. Folkish identity is layered and nested; family within clan, clan within tribe, tribe within folk. The higher layers depend on the lower for their integrity. The folk cannot be strong without strong tribes, without strong clans, without strong families.

This site presents the twelve foundations of that worldview. Each foundation builds on the others. Together they form a complete picture of our ancestral folkway.
